Towards standardizing and increased transparency in ESG reporting

Major corporations publish ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reports, but inconsistent formats and self-serving methodologies make meaningful comparison nearly impossible. Existing scoring frameworks from providers like Yahoo and S&P Global are optimized for investor returns rather than environmental accountability, and their analytical processes lack transparency. Companies can strategically emphasize favorable metrics while burying or omitting problematic ones.
The Ethical Policy Analyzer (EPA) addresses this by standardizing ESG evaluation—identifying what metrics are reported and, critically, highlighting what is absent. Rather than relying on curated marketing narratives, the system uses automated NLP analysis to surface both disclosures and deliberate gaps.
