Open Source Summer Cohort

Partner Programs / OREL / JOPRO

OREL has run GSoC cohorts with OpenWorm, INCF, and DevWorm. A JOPRO-adjacent open source internship focuses on building tools related to research infrastructure, neuroscience modeling, or the FrontierMap process.

This is a partner program: applications go through the Google Summer of Code process, with mentorship jointly provided by OREL and JOPRO-affiliated researchers. The position is open to international applicants.

What you'll do

• Contribute to an open-source research tool or infrastructure project
• Work with mentors from OREL, INCF, and JOPRO
• Participate in the Google Summer of Code program structure
• Document your work and contribute to project repositories
• Present your contributions to the broader open-source community

Who this is for

Undergraduate or graduate students with software development experience and interest in open-source research tools, neuroscience, computational modeling, or research infrastructure. International applicants welcome.
